About the Journal

The Journal of Afrocentric Governance and Public Affairs (JAGPA) is a peer-reviewed scholarly publication dedicated to advancing knowledge, research, and critical discourse on governance and public affairs from an Afrocentric perspective. It is hosted by the Afrocentric Governance and Public Affairs Research Entity at North-West University. The journal serves as a platform for academics, practitioners, policymakers, and thought leaders to interrogate and reframe governance paradigms within African contexts. JAGPA is grounded in the principle that African governance systems, institutions, and public administration practices should be understood, analysed and developed through frameworks that reflect African histories, cultures, values, and epistemologies. The journal seeks to challenge dominant Eurocentric models by promoting indigenous knowledge systems, decolonial thought and contextually relevant policy approaches that address the unique socio-political and economic realities of the African continent. The scope of the journal is multidisciplinary, encompassing public administration, political science, development studies, public policy, ethics and leadership, and local governance. It welcomes theoretical, empirical and comparative studies that contribute to debates on state capacity, service delivery, democratic governance, social justice, and sustainable development in Africa in particular and the Global South in general. JAGPA places particular emphasis on issues affecting African governments and communities, including governance innovation, participatory democracy, anti-corruption strategies, traditional leadership systems, and the role of state and non-state institutions in fostering inclusive development. The journal also encourages critical reflections on contemporary challenges such as digital governance, climate change, migration, and economic transformation. As a scholarly outlet, JAGPA adheres to rigorous academic standards, ensuring quality through a double-masked peer-review process. It is committed to fostering emerging scholars while also amplifying established voices in Afrocentric governance discourse.
